News - Pedro's report send by mail
6. September 2002
Dear Alfred, Pilar and other Haranang Pilipino Members
warm Greetings!!!
Thank you very much for your E-Mail and for sending the homepage of your association. I appreciate so much
of how you presented your different poverty alleviation projects for the Philippines. Hopefully, the Philippine
government will be able to see your web page so that they will be able to appreciate your efforts and for the
officials to also be serious in implementation of development projects in the rural areas not only in the cities.
Personally I am happy of how you presented the reality of Lias, from the production aspect to marketing, I'm sure
that the Lias people will be impress and happy to see that remote barangay Lias is now in the internet, even their
pictures and the ethnic cultures are being shown in the internet. For sure they will be encourage to take good care
of the their coffee arabica seedlings. Rest assured, that I will show them the print outs of the Lias Helping Hand
Project when I will go there to visit our project.
Travel Report:
A. Updates of the Helping hand project are as follows:
- Our farmer beneficiaries have already planted the 1,500 coffee arabica seedlings that were delivered last June 2002.
- All together with the Lias Fruit Growers Association officers and members visited the nursery site where the seedbed
is being constructed and conducted an one site orientation on the implementation of the project.
- The cementing of the seedbed is nearly finish, they have temporarily stop the construction due to the peak of harvest
season, they have resumed this week to cement the 1/4 part of the seedbed and the division and then they will place the
plastic to cover the seedbed.
- Recommended the removal of stones within the soil media and mix decompose rice hulls before sowing the seeds.
- Delivered 2 rolls of hog wires to be used in fencing the surrounding of the seedbed to prevent astray animals.
- Presented to them the remaining amount of money in the bank for the the project, to be use in buying polytylene bags
and other supplies.
- The officers and members will have a meeting to identify the permanent area for the establishment of the nursery since
the location of the seedbed is temporary since the owner might construct his house after 3-5 years, so that our investment
will not be wasted. I will be sending the budgetary requirements of the establishment of the nursery later, if you are in
favor for it.
B. Support for the diabetic girl Bianca Kacayon
Informed Joseph and Ester Kacayon, the parents of the girl that you were able to contact a good samaritan woman
who is willing to support their daughter's medicine and they were very happy and thankfull of hearing about it. I
saw in their face a sincere smile and a happy eyes with renewed hope of easing their heavy burdens.
I also informed them that we will just wait of your confirmation on the means of sending the support to them, they
said that the medicines that they bought will be over by the middle week of this month. Manang Pilar and Alfred,
kindly update me regarding this matter.
May I apologize to all of you if I have done lapses on my past E-Mails and hoping for your understanding and usual
support to our project.
Best regards to everybody and guten abend.
