Piglets for Legazpi
"Hog Dispersal Project"
The rice donation in summer 2001 was a spontaneous idea, which we knew would only be a short term help.
After Christmas 2002 we started the following project:
13 piglets were bought (one piglet costs about 35 Euro), which were given to suitable people for "care". By the first
throw one piglet is given to another suitable person. The beneficiaries themselves are responsible for fodder and
eventual medical care.
This way, the families take part in a constant improvement of the food supply. Also, disadvantages by
mass-produced animals are avoided.
Every beneficiaries Family had to sign a contract. In February Dieter and Daisy inspected the project.
This project is based on an idea from the catholic women community at the village and was already started before
our start of effort. It was not easy for us to start this project, as there suspicion, that the pigs will be cooked,
before they fulfilled their purpose. Usually a pig does not survive a family feast. But we decided to rely on the
people in Bogtog and not to prevent the start by our big doubts.
In charge for this project is the "Barangay Council of Bogtong". Our contact is Barangay Captain Rolando Belbes.
